The reason why I chose this book is that I couldn't get enough of Lizzy and Diesel in the first book.I didn't realize that this book had so much in common with the play that we are currently working on in class called Hamlet. There's Hatchet who serves Wulf, he dresses like he is living back in the Renaissance ages. He wears tights and runs around speaking poetry or poetic gestures. Hatchet wears a sword on him at all times, and he will threaten to run anyone that makes fun of him or stand in his way through with his sword. He talks like he came right out of a piece of Shakespeare's work. "none of thou's beeswax." He is a modern guy trying to live in the time that he feels most comfortable. You could say that he is an everyday servant trying to help out his master anyway that he can.Anarchy is just like the character in Shakespeare's Hamlet because both are driven by the lust and greed for power. Anarchy is consumed with the need to find the lust stone and will do anything to obtain her goal, even try to burn down a house. Compared to Claudius who killed his brother to become king, which is his power lust.
In Hamlet, Hamlet ends up killing Polonius and it doesn't even phase him or his conversation with his mother. He lacks the remorse of the deed. He just goes on talking to his mother as if nothing had happened, and that Polonius got what he deserved. Anarchy is the same when she tries to kill Wulf with a bomb strapped to his chest in the College. This would have devistating consequences for its in a public place and would have collateral damage. With no regard to the thousands of people that could get hurt in the or even killed! She also lacks remorse for her deeds, the crazy consuming obsession for the lust stone causes her mind to go loopy.

Wicked business is right! My curiosity is bubbling over! Tell me more please!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you contrasted Hamlet and your novel, by the sounds of it I can see how you would see these two novels to be similar. I think that you are right about Claudius power lust too, I meant really would you kill your own brother? and steal his wife while you at it?! No way!
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in your novel, I'd like to read it and see if there are anymore similarities to the characters, or even if I can compare the characters from your novel to the ones in my novel!
